Getting Started

Q: How do I "Claim" my new Porter?
A: Simply scan your new Porter tag with your smartphone. If the tag is unassigned, you will see a Claim & Setup button. Tap it, and the tag will be instantly linked to your Charis Studios account.

Q: What is a "Floating Action"?
A: A Floating Action is a way to create a new "Saved Action" or "Business Card" in your library without immediately linking it to a physical tag. This is perfect for preparing your digital content before your physical Porters arrive.


Managing Your Content

Q: What is the difference between a "Standard Action" and a "Business Card"?
A: * Standard Action: Best for single-purpose redirects like opening a website, joining a WiFi network, or launching a pre-filled SMS/Email.

  • Business Card: A professional landing page that displays your contact details, bio, and social links, allowing others to save your info with one tap.

Q: Can I change a tag from a Website Link to a Business Card later?
A: Yes! Go to your Registered Tags list, click Configure, and use the mode toggles at the top of the editor to switch. Your Porter is 100% rewritable in the cloud.


Using Advanced Features

Q: How do the "Predefined Messages" work for SMS and Email?
A: When you select SMS or Email as an action type, you can type a message in the "Predefined Message" box. When someone scans your tag, their phone will automatically open a new message addressed to you with that text already typed out. It’s perfect for "I'm interested in this item" or "Check-in" requests.

Q: Does the "WiFi" action work on all phones?
A: Most modern smartphones support "Scan-to-Join" WiFi. When a guest scans your tag, their phone will prompt them to join the network automatically—no more typing in long, complex passwords.


Troubleshooting & Syncing

Q: Why does it take a few seconds to "Finalize Sync"?
A: To ensure your data is securely written to the Shopify Cloud and distributed to our global redirect servers, we perform a high-fidelity sync. Waiting for the progress bar ensures that the next person who scans your tag sees your updated content immediately.

Q: I deleted a library item by mistake. Can I get it back?
A: For security and privacy, deletions from the Saved Library are permanent. However, you can quickly recreate the item using the "+" icon in the editor.


Pro Tips for Charis Studios Smart Tag Users

  • Nicknames: Use descriptive nicknames like "Front Desk QR" or "Sales Team Lead Card" to stay organized as your Porter collection grows.

  • LinkedIn/Instagram: When adding social links to your Business Card, ensure you use the full URL (e.g., https://instagram.com/charisstudiosoffical) to ensure compatibility across all devices.
