Solid Hardwood Face-Grain Cutting & Serving Board with Hidden NFC Smart Tag

One board, two lives — now in five hardwoods. Each piece is hand-built in our Leo, Indiana workshop as a face-grain board that's equally at home under a chef's knife or beneath a Friday-night charcuterie spread. The wide, flat face shows the full character of the wood, so it works as hard as a prep surface as it does as a centerpiece.

Choose your wood

Every species is built and finished the same way; what changes is the character of the grain.

• Cherry — warm, reddish-amber tone that deepens to a rich patina with age and light. Smooth, closed grain that's gentle on knife edges.
• Hard Maple — pale, creamy, and bright; the dense professional standard for kitchen surfaces. Its quiet grain makes engraving and inlay stand out.
• Walnut — deep chocolate-brown with ribboned grain. Our signature look — durable, handsome, and easy on blades.
• Curly Maple (figured) — hard maple with tiger-stripe curl that shimmers and shifts as you move around it. Maple's toughness with showpiece figure.
• Figured Walnut (figured) — walnut chosen for dramatic movement: curl, crotch feathering, and marbled grain. A true one-of-one centerpiece.

Figured woods (Curly Maple and Figured Walnut) are hand-selected for their grain and priced accordingly.

Solid wood, built to last

Wide boards are never cut from a single plank — a lone wide board cups and cracks as it ages. Instead we joint and glue solid staves of one species into a flat, stable panel, grain-matched so it reads as one continuous surface. The result is all solid hardwood — no veneer, no filler — built the way fine boards have always been made to stay true for decades.

Sizes & thickness

• 9 × 12 × 1″ — personal prep board or individual serving.
• 12 × 18 × 1″ — our everyday standard.
• 12 × 18 × 1½″ — same footprint, extra heft and presence.
• Grazing · 10 × 24 × 1″ — a long, narrow runner made for grazing tables and charcuterie spreads.
• Large · 18 × 24 × 1½″ — a substantial board for entertaining.
• XL · 20 × 30 × 1½″ — a statement island and grazing board for serious gatherings.

A note on thickness: these dimensions are our target. Because every board is one of one — milled to feature the very best of the grain — the finished thickness can vary slightly. A 1″ board may land anywhere from about ¾″ to 1¼″, with the thicker sizes varying proportionally. We always mill as close to the target as the wood allows, choosing the finest grain over a perfectly uniform number.

Cutting board or serving tray

One surface, two lives: put it to work as a durable everyday cutting board, or set it out as a beautiful showcase serving tray for cheeses, breads, and grazing spreads. It carries from counter to table without missing a beat — a hardworking tool and a centerpiece in one.

Specifications

• Dimensions: your selected size, from 9 × 12 up to 20 × 30. Thickness is a target (see the note above) — finished pieces may vary slightly with grain selection.
• Wood: solid, single-species face grain in your chosen hardwood, built from grain-matched staves.
• Edges: a crisp 25° chamfer along the bottom edge for an easy lift-and-grip, with a soft chamfer on the top edge for a finished, hand-friendly feel.
• Stability: discreet rubber feet keep the board planted and lift it off the counter for airflow and faster drying.
• Finish: hand-sanded and sealed with food-safe oil. Grain-matched and one of a kind — no two panels are alike.

The Hidden Smart Tag — A Living Connection, Built In

Set flush into the underside is an embedded NFC chip — invisible from above, part of the craft, not bolted on. Tap it with any smartphone (no app to download) and a private page opens, unique to your board and powered by our Tapped platform. We program it with:

• A personal message — ideal when the board is a wedding, housewarming, or anniversary gift.
• Care & keeping — illustrated oiling and washing guides, always a tap away.
• The story of its build — the wood, the maker, and the day it was finished in our Leo, Indiana workshop.

Because the page lives online, the story can grow with the piece long after it ships.

Care

Hand wash with mild soap, dry immediately, and refresh with food-safe board oil every few months. Never soak or put in the dishwasher. The full care guide lives on your board's smart-tag page — just tap to open it.

• None: the board in its pure form (the NFC message is included either way).
• Laser Engraving: a name, date, monogram, or logo etched into the wood.
• Contrasting Wood Inlay: your initial or mark inlaid in a contrasting hardwood, set flush with the surface — our signature touch.
