Edge-Grain Cutting Board with Hidden NFC Smart Tag | Multi-Wood Signature Series

Our edge-grain construction turns each board on its side and laminates the strips into a dense, tight-grained working surface — the daily-driver of the Signature Series. It takes real knife work, resists scarring and warping, and still carries the signature look: walnut, cherry, and curly maple in crisp stripes with padauk accents. And hidden beneath a contrasting-wood inlay on the back, an embedded NFC smart tag links it to a story all its own.
Construction
Edge grain is the workhorse construction: harder-wearing than face grain and gentler on knife edges, which is why it's the standard for boards that get used every day. If your board will spend more time presenting than prepping, our face-grain board shows broader, more figured grain.
Layout
- Symmetric: Stripes mirrored around the board's center line — formal, architectural balance.
- Asymmetric: Stripes placed in a free composition — organic, one-of-a-kind rhythm.
Specifications
- Sizes: 9" × 12", 12" × 18", 16" × 22", or 18" × 24".
- Materials: American Black Walnut, Pennsylvania Cherry, Curly Maple, and African Padauk accents.
- Finish: Hand-sanded to 220-grit and sealed with Odie's Oil — 100% organic and food-safe.
- One of one: Wood species and layout style stay constant; your board's exact stripe rhythm exists nowhere else.
The Hidden Smart Tag — A Living Connection, Built In
Turn the board over and you'll find a small contrasting-wood inlay set flush into the back — part of the craft, not bolted on. Beneath it sits an embedded NFC chip. Tap it with any smartphone (no app to download) and a private page opens, unique to your board and powered by our Tapped platform.
That page is a living menu we can update at any time:
- A personal message — ideal when your board is a wedding, housewarming, or anniversary gift.
- The story of its build — the wood species, the maker who shaped it, and the day it was finished in our Leo, Indiana workshop.
- Care & keeping — illustrated oiling and washing guides, always a tap away.
Because the page lives online, the story never goes stale — it can grow with the piece long after it leaves our bench.
Care
Hand wash with mild soap, dry immediately, and refresh with food-safe board oil every few months. Never soak or put in the dishwasher. The full care & keeping guide lives on your board's smart-tag page — just tap to open it anytime.
